Job Description

Represents OFD as a key subject matter expert for all regulatory, food safety, and quality related concerns. Develops policies to define OFD’s commitment to food safety and quality. Assures compliance to food safety and quality standards from source of supply to consumer. Develops, leads, and monitors food safety & quality management programs & systems in accordance with government regulations, customer specifications, food standards, and internal requirements. Establish and implement metrics for monitoring system effectiveness. Ensures alignment of food safety & quality systems with OFD’s vision & goals. Establish continuous improvement plan for the QA Department supporting company mission and vision to ensure food safety and world class quality across all facilities and products. Develop tools to report on KPIs, trend analysis, and drive continuous process and quality improvements. Leads prevention & resolution of potential or emerging critical incidents involving food safety or regulatory compliance failures. May investigate, respond to, and resolve consumer or customer complaints regarding alleged product food safety or quality issues and claims. Leads the product recall process. Keeping abreast of and monitor latest food safety regulations and guidance; ensuring full SQF compliance at all manufacturing and distribution locations; leading FSMA programs to ensure production of safe products. Supports lean manufacturing and waste reduction initiatives to improve operating performance. Develops short-term & long-term strategic and operational goals for the department, managing execution and measuring results. Promotes innovation in the quality and food safety systems by thoroughly understanding both internal processes and customers’ needs. Identify best practices in food safety and quality management systems; Prepare, communicate and educate internal and external stakeholders on changes in policies and practices within the organization. Oversees training and development of QA employees directly and indirectly and makes effective staffing decisions. Provides coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities to QA personnel. Cultivates an environment where QA employees respect and follow company values. Implements strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged team passionate to maintain food safety and consistent product quality. Report to executive team on food safety and quality issues, trends, and losses. Drives food safety and quality objectives by establishing and maintaining close team working relationships with Procurement, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Engineering, Distribution and Administration personnel. Educate and train all OFD employees as to their impact in the food safety and quality management system. Experience and Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related technical field. Equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered in lieu of degree. 7 - 10 years’ experience leading Food Safety, Quality Assurance, and Regulatory programs. Comprehensive knowledge of food safety standards and regulations (SQF, FSMA, HACCP, GMPs, SOPs, pest control, allergen control, lot traceability, foodborne pathogens, sanitation practices, environmental monitoring, recall programs, etc.). Experience in direct responsibility for SQF in a food manufacturing facility highly desired. In depth knowledge of USDA regulations. Experience developing and maintaining strong relations with on-site USDA desirable. Comprehensive knowledge of FDA standards desirable. Strong understanding and experience with manufacturing operations. Understanding and experience with supply chain, quality systems, and policies for multiple locations desired. Experience in supplier approval process and driving continuous improvement with existing suppliers. Excellent communication and presentation skills both verbal and written Demonstrated ability to direct, coach, and train employees, including developing and delivering performance reviews and disciplinary action. Must hold current, valid drivers’ license and provide proof of current automobile insurance. Must have reliable transportation to transport self between company facilities during work hours, as needed, and transportation to and from off-site company events.
